I've recently purchased a Digitech JamMan XT Solo looper pedal http://digitech.com/en-US/products/jamman-solo-xt, and plan to use it at my next gig on Sunday to play my BIAB backing tracks. Using the JamManager software that is included, I was able to copy all my recorded BIAB tracks (Wav files) onto the pedal. Using a FS3X footwitch I'm able to scroll through the songs quite quickly. I'm excited about using it because I'm now completely hands free at my gigs, plus I've eliminated a mike stand rig with a tray where I used to place my CD player. I like the fact that after every song I'm no longer having to focus on pushing bottoms on a CD player. I'd be interested in anyone else who may have tried this approach?

Thanks

Frank

Great IDEA, please let us know how it works out (I assume you have at least a 16GB or maybe even 32 or 64 GB SD/SDHC installed).

I have a DigiTech JMD JamMan Delay Looper (it's an older discontinued "bigger" brother) - hadn't even thought of that use.

I run my Jamman Stereo into a volume pedal then to the amp when playing live. Works great.

I have used the boss RC3 loop pedal for this purpose and it does work great. I did have to add 2 foot switches to move forward or backward though the playlist. I had problems getting the volume set at the same levels for each song. I never thought of using volume pedal, but I am sure that would work. It is a simple "hardware" solution that has a lower chance of failure.

This is cool and I'm all for using what you already have but what's the advantage of a looper pedal over any one of the devices that can load and playback MP3's or wav's? You can use any IOS or Android device for that from a phone to a tablet. They all have set list apps, scrolling, foot pedal support, they can display charts, lyrics, whatever.

Hey Bob,

The advantage I found by using this setup last Sunday at a gig was that all my scrolling through songs and hitting play and stop is done hands-free with the pedal. I also like the fact that visually the audience doesn't look at me manipulating a CD player, MP3 player, etc. It kinda enhances the "magic" of the invisible band.

That's a good point about the visuals. People see guitarists using stomp pedals all the time so it's nothing new.

I've watched some looper pedal contests on YT and some of those guys are amazing.

If you've got just about any kind of tablet computer you might want to take a look at the AirTurn or PageFlip bluetooth pedals. I put all my backing tracks on my Samsung pad, clip it to my mic stand, and use my AirTurn BT-105 to not only start and stop songs, but to also choose playlists and control volume and mute. All hands free. Both are very good products. I just went with AirTurn 'cause I got it for cheap at NAMM last January.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
